Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions Ltd and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures have today announced that Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) will be the screenwriters of the 23rd James Bond adventure.

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in the film, which will be a MGM release of an EON production. "Bond 23" is the latest installment in the longest-running franchise in motion picture history and will be produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. A date for the start of production is yet to be confirmed.

"Peter, Neal and Robert are extraordinarily talented and we're looking forward to working with the three of them," commented Wilson and Broccoli.

Peter Morgan is the award-winning writer of such films as The Last King of Scotland, The Queen and Frost/Nixon, which was based on his play. He has also scripted the upcoming "The Special Relationship" for HBO and Hereafter for DreamWorks. He will turn his attention to "Bond 23" on completion of these duties.

Since 1991, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have collaborated on a diverse range of projects including The Italian Job, Johnny English and the past four Bond films. They recently adapted John Le Carre's The Mission Song and are also working on the upcoming sequel The Brazilian Job.

Morgan is a great choice, but it's time to frop Purvis and Wade. It was Paul Haggis and Martin Campbell who made "Casino Royale" work, and then the "Quantum of Solace" script was a big disappoinment.

Glad to know they aren't calling it quits after Quantum of Solace. I think Craig kicks ass as Bond, and I'm glad that he's coming back.

"the longest-running franchise in motion picture history"

Whoa, wait a minute. Dr. No, the first official James Bond film, came out in 1962 but the first Godzilla film came out in 1954 and is still going today. Godzilla IS the longest running franchise in film history. I'd like to add that i have seen every Godzilla film (28) in my earlier life and every Bond film (22) in my later life and i like both series equally.

^ HECK YEAH! I was about to point out Godzilla as well. The Godzilla franchise is even longer if you count some of the tie-in films (Rodan, Mothra, War of the Gargantuas and so on).

But yeah, I'm glad they're continuing on. I really loved QOS but after the mass backlash I was kinda scared they'd stop making them for a while.

BS, Haggis did NOT make Casino Royale. All he did was polish the script. He DID make Quantum of Solace which may have been an ok action film but was far from a Bond film. I mean he and the director wanted to have Vesper leave an orphaned kid behind after her death and have Bond leave him. That's just ridiculous, thank god the producers scrapped that idea.

Personally I'm glad Haggis is out of there. The only good thing he has written was Million Dollar Baby and that was a book beforehand so he didn't even write it from scratch. And don't even get me started on the overrated film known as Crash.

Anyway I'm excited for this, with Haggis gone they just need to get a decent director. Hopefully the trend of hiring indie film directors who can't handle a big movie is over and they will get someone competent.
