Amy Poehler is the Lunch Lady

June 11, 2009

Universal has picked up "Lunch Lady," a children's graphic novel series written and illustrated by Jarrett Krosoczka, with Amy Poehler attached to star. The Hollywood Reporter says Poehler will executive produce along with the Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein set to produce.

Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern are writing the adaptation.

The "Lady" series, the first of which will be unveiled at the end of July by Knopf Books for Young Readers, centers on a mild-mannered school cafeteria server who secretly dishes out helpings of justice as she and her assistant investigate wrongdoings. The books also feature three kids who try to figure out her double life.

The titles include "Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians" and "Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute," both of which are due this summer. "Lunch Lady and the Author Visit Vendetta" is scheduled to be released in December and "Lunch Lady and the Summer Camp Shakedown" is set for summer 2010.

Why don't they turn "The Bailey School Kids" into a movie series. Hmm, actually, better yet, a TV show! I love those kids. Remember "Santa Claus Doesn't Mop Floors?"

Dammit. I am sorry, i wasn't quick enough. Whenever I see something with Zero Comments, I try to post something as fast as I can as not to get any "Firsters."

Which is kind of more pathetic than somebody who says "first" if it's even really pathetic. And according to you guys, it's pretty much the 8th deadly sin.

Poehler is always good for a laugh. She was great in Baby Mama. While this sounds kinda nutty and out there, i'll give it a chance if she's putting her name on it.

Why does everyone act like Amy Poehler is the greatest thing to happen to comedy? Personally, I don't find her to be all that funny. I can't even believe NBC canceled a show like My Name is Earl to make room for her Parks an Recreation show. That and the SNL updates show are just terrible. SNL hasn't been relevant in a long time.

This movie idea sounds kind of crappy. Might be decent if it's got some hardcore action, but more than likely it will be campy junk.

OK- First- there WAS a UCB movie- it's called "Martin & Orloff" and it's the Jizz...

Regarding the Lunch Lady franchise? Maybe the writers will make a cool noir mystery out of the franchise- I don't think they should dumb it down. Kids are smarter than they think. anyway..This doesn't sound too bad I guess- Amy Poehler is hilarious enough to carry this idea- and hey the kids need someone with TALENT to watch- so more power to her-
Having said that- I agree withone of the other commenters that there are OTHER franchises they could make kick@$$ movies out of.
My votes?

Bunnicula- (use the first three books- John Goodman as the dog,and Steve Buscemi as the cat) Film it with the same technology they used to make all the other talking animals movies- oh but do it in black and white like an old Hammer film.
Get on it, Hollywood!!!

I don't think Martin & Orloff was officially a UCB movie but it was freaking hilarious...really stupid and really funny. How come no one knows about this movie?

i do agree that amy poehler is inconsistent. but i admire her for working so hard. parks and rec is pretty poor thus far, but she's been fantastic in other things.

one thing i have to address though: "snl hasn't been relevant in a long time"? are you freaking kidding me???????????

oh, and TOTALLY agrees with the bailey school kids...skeletons don't play tubas!

I was kinda hoping for a SNL connection. When I saw the title, my mind raced with ideas of Poehler playing Chris Farley's lunch lady and the movie being a Happy Madison Production. Oh how I dare to dream.
