Paramount Pictures has released the great new trailer for director Martin Scorcese's Shutter Island, opening in theaters on October 2nd. The psychological thriller, written by Laeta Kalogridis, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson and Max von Sydow.

The film is the story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

Oh my GOD this looks way better than I could of hoped it to be. AMAZING. It feels like Martin Scorsese is tapping into the atmospherics of Stephen King. This is looks BRILLIANT.

Not to sound pessimistic, but I didn't see anything that particularly stood out to make me think this will be different than your average psychological thriller, but I'll just blame that on whomever cut the trailer together. I'm very glad to see that Scorcese isn't doing just another gangster flick.

Definitely looking forward to it despite the generic-ness of the trailer.

@Pecos Bill:

I have to agree with you a bit on the trailer cut, but I have a feeling this will be above average. And it is good to see Scorsese doing something a little different. This movie should be good and creepy!
