Variety says that James Franco ("Spider-Man" films) is set to star in In Praise of Shadows, an indie drama written and directed by Jay Anania.

Anania is head of the directing program at the graduate film school at NYU, where Franco just completed his first year, while simultaneously completing his master's degree in English at Columbia University.

The drama tells the story of William Vincent (Franco), and recounts his eccentric and curious journey that brought him back to New York City after four years in exile to rescue the woman he loves from a crime syndicate.

The film will start production June 15 in New York City.

maybe thats how he earned his course credits... by buttering up the teachers and making promises to appear in their films... I might be interested depending on the level of 'curious and eccentric' in his journey.

Anania has made movies with Martin Lawrence, Olympia Dukakis, Julian Sand. I doubt any of them were in his film classes. I look forward to the mix of Anania's cerebral density and Franco's muscular interpretation.

Not a remake, sequel, or "reimagining"? Wow, not very original. Who do these indie film people think that they are? Who needs human drama when we have CGI? The humanity!

hmmm now just sayin

there is definitely such a thing as self-improvement. a person can want to get better at something without having to earn money from it. i dunno if he wants to teach, but if he wants to learn i say good.
