Dan Milano to Write Short Circuit

Dimension Films has hired Dan Milano to write the script for the Short Circuit remake.

The 1986 original was about an armed robot that acquired a personality after a lightning strike, and sought the help of humans to prevent its destruction by its makers in the military.

Milano, who aside from writing and providing voices for the Adult Swim cartoon "Robot Chicken" and co-creating and playing the title character in "Greg the Bunny," figures to bring a subversive edge to the original film scripted by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock.

"We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals," producer David Foster said and added that the robot's visual look won't change.

They should leave Johnny 5 in the 80s where he belongs. Just because Wall*E was a hit doesn't mean there has to be all these movies with robots.

I guess since Dimension (Weinsteins) are releasing it that means it will get a lot of internet buzz, get pushed back from release for about 3 years and then get released in 5 theaters and then head to DVD. Just like Fanboys, The Killshot, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane and many others.

Why? Because its entertainment and people like to be entertained. Remake everything! I can't wait till they remake the star wars prequels!

honestly,
it doesn't matter what writer or director this remake gets.

Sorry. I wish had something positive to say. But...I can't. My curiosity gets the best of me, because I am a huge fan of the original Short Circuit films.

I agree with Jean Ouellet. Instead of ruining it with a remake, they should just do Short Circuit 3. It wouldn't be the same with out Ben Javeri! Maybe an appearance by Los Locos!!

I would love to see a 10-year moratorium placed on remakes. Hollywood needs to grow a pair and start putting some original ideas on the screen.
