Wimmer Penning Total Recall Remake

Columbia Pictures has set Kurt Wimmer to write Total Recall, the remake of the 1990 film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, reports Variety.

Wimmer has been working with the studio on Salt and co-wrote the upcoming Law Abiding Citizen. Wimmer's credits include The Thomas Crown Affair, Equilibrium and Ultraviolet.

Total Recall was resurrected for remake earlier this year by the studio and producer Neal Moritz and his Original Films. The film will be a contemporized adaptation of the sci-fi saga based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale."

I like Kurt Wimmer. Equilibrium was awesome. However, I will still not see this movie in theaters because this remake is unnecessary. Wait another 30 years, or longer.

I just looked at the top grossing movies from 1990, the year Total Recall came out. None of them were remakes. Zero.

Remakes really aren't all that bad. I don't get all of the complaints. There are still tons of original stories coming out. And if I'm not mistaken, which i very well may be, wasn't Total Recall a loose adaptation of the original short story? That leaves room for plenty of interpretation, so it could end up very different and very good. It could probably even delve further into the philosophical and ethical questions raised by the possibility of replacing your memories.. much further than the Governator's emotional range could dig. Don't get me wrong, the man could blow **** up and get to the chopper like no other, but he wasn't doing much else. It would be great to see one of these new young actors take on the action and emotion.

You guys all panic too easily at the sight of the "R" word. Try this "R" word out... Reeeelllaaaaax.

I really don't see the point unless the ending is different. But the ending was the best part about the movie, leaving it to your own imagination. This is becoming slightly annoying. What's next, a Matrix remake? They should at least wait till the original fans have forgotten the movie a bit.
