Ashley Miller and Tom Hiddleston on Thor!

May 30, 2009

CineFOOLS has posted a great interview with Thor co-writer Ashley Miller talking about the Marvel Studios comic book adaptation. Here's a cool excerpt from the article:

Not in the sense that you'd want to see a generic "dark" take on Thor, but in the sense that you want to feel Thor's rage when he rages. You want to see him fight like hell, and take as much he dishes out -- maybe more. You want to have a visceral reaction to the guy, and what happens to him. You don't want his adventures to be clean and antiseptic. You want to see the dirt, and grime and blood. You want to feel every bone crunching moment of every fight. And when he unleashes the storm, you want to feel like you're seeing the power of a GOD at work.

Check out the full interview here! Also, The Daily Mail talked to Tom Hiddleston about playing the villain, Loki. Check out these bits...

'Loki's like a comic book version of Edmund in King Lear, but nastier,' Tom observed.

How much nastier? 'Well, Loki's skilled in black magic and scorcery. He's a shape-shifter and has all sorts of super powers from the dark arts. He can turn clouds into dragons, things like that.'

Between now and January, when Thor begins shooting, Tom has to keep himself fit and healthy.

'Ken wants Loki to have a lean and hungry look, like Cassius in Julius Caesar. Physically, he can't be posing as Thor.'

Thor is scheduled for a May 20, 2011 release.

Sounds nice! I like the Shakespearean angle and the intention of making it gritty and hard-boiled...

@ thealmightythor: Fail.

@ S on my chest: Fail.

Does anybody agree that Ultimate Thor is the best representation of the character? I hope I see that Thor instead of the winged-helmet with cape version.

@MINTO: No, Ultimate Thor's look is even more homo. What with the whole "backless costume" and all. Keep it 616.

@Holy S***! Did Jesus come Down Yet?: No, it will not be R-rated. Hopefully though, we can get a hard PG-13 like The Dark Knight, Iron Man, or Casino Royale.

hey Larger than Life, Marvel Studios is doing this one...no need to fear. It will be great just like Iron Man and Incredible Hulk...unless you hated those and in that case nothing is going to make you happy.

Hopefully it will be more like The Incredible Hulk, and not a dumbed down "adaptation" a la Iron Man. Take notes Marvel: more story, less fan service. Thanks.

@ MINTO: I agree, the Ultimate's Thor version will be much better suited for the big screen and thesame goes for Capt America. It worked for Iron-Man.

lol the co-writer mentions alot of thing like "bonecrunching" and "You want to see the dirt, and grime and blood."

do you guys think this movie will contain violence and blood/gore (well not too much to over exaggerate)

but imagine a rated R Thor hah
that would be ****ing epic!
i would loooove to see that :D

Did any of you read the actual interview? She lists Ultimate Thor as a main character reference. It looks like there's not question he's the traditional god though.

Way too early to tell how this one's gonna go, I have a good feeling about it though :)

@Randy Watson

"I agree, the Ultimate's Thor version will be much better suited for the big screen and thesame goes for Capt America. It worked for Iron-Man."

No. No it didn't. The armor design was modeled after the Ultimate Version, but the characterization and backstory are almost straight from 616. Heck, Ultimate Iron Man's origin is nothing like the movie version's. Antonio Stark (not Anthony like in the movie) learns he has a terminal brain tumor and only a couple of months to live, he decides to become a crimefighter in order to make what time he has left as meaningful as possible.

What you should have said was "It worked for Nick Fury", at which point most of us would have nodded solemnly and said "Yes, yes it did." That being said, Marvel stayed pretty close to their roots for the Iron Man and Hulk movies and I'm guessing that's how they'll go with the rest of their films (Nick Fury aside).
