Buffy the Vampire Slayer Returning to the Big Screen?

May 26, 2009

The Hollywood Reporter says that Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be returning to the big screen. Creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch.

The trade adds that Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 Fox movie.

Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman in bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997.

The new film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon.

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie.

The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him.

Stop making remakes.

Why not turn Whedon's Season Eight into a movie. The studios could make a bundle and the fans would get more screen time.

I think they should get the original cast and crew like they did for X-Files. Have Buffy go out of Sunnydale and fight Vampires in other towns.

Huge Buffy/Angel fan here. Not interested in this. Now, a sequel or conclusion to the tv shows would peak my interest.

Sorry, No Whedon = No Good. Now if he would do it I might be interested. And after he did that he could do a sequel to Serenity.

It's only gonna be good if they get Joss Whedon back. I'm a huge fan...and no...Fran destroyed Joss's original script, so much so that he left the set and never came back, and created a terrible movie. I seriously don't think that this will be much better, unless they tie it into the series and have references...and they gotta have Angel, even if he's not physically interacting with Buffy, cause he was in LA at the time, and he was watching over her. A it of references to the Angel series would be cool too, like a mild Wolfram and Hart reference...

Don't do this if you don't get the known actors it will suck Buffy is SMG. Its not like they are so old and/or dead so they can't reprise their roles like the cast of the original Star Trek. It should be a continuation of the series and be based on the Buffy season 8 comics. Obviously Joss Whedon is what made Buffy good Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, made a pile of crap movie 18 years ago and they are on the fast track to make a steaming pile of sh&t with another try. DO NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE LET THE STORY EITHER DIE OR CONTINUE IN COMICS DO NOT RELAUNCH BUFFY THERE IS TOO MUCH GOOD OUT THEIR FOR YOU TO SCREW IT UP AGAIN YOU DAMN IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!
