Terminator Salvation Opens to $13.3 Million

May 22, 2009

Warner Bros. Pictures' Terminator Salvation opened to $13.3 million from 3,530 theaters on Thursday. About $3 million of that came from midnight screenings. The last film in the franchise, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, had a preview night on July 1, 2003 during which it earned $4 million and then it made $12.4 million the next full day in 3,355 theaters.

The McG-directed film may get close to adding another $60 million over the four-day Friday-to-Monday Memorial Day frame for a total of over $70 million for its first five days.

Starting today, Terminator Salvation is going head-to-head with two more wide releases - Fox's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Paramount's Dance Flick.

Even though the critics are bashing it, the public seems to be enjoying it. I think the good word of mouth will help it carry on.

It was good but not as good as the Dark Night. And this is supposed to be the first one of a new trilogy, right?

This movie was really good to be the first of a trilogy. I liked the way they put elements from all 3 films into the story. Plus Sam Worthington's performance was amazing.

Most projections that I saw said that Terminator would hit 90 million in its first five days. I think Star Trek is gonna be the biggest critical and commercial hit of the summer. Terminator was panned by critics and Star Trek will outgross it. Transformers will make more money than Star Trek, but critics also aren't really gonna like it.

LOL not as good as TDK, lol please stop do we have to hear this every time a movie comes out? Titanic is number one in sales all time should we compare every movie to that? got to be kidding me when everything that comes out is compared to last years success. I guess transformers doesn't have a chance. In my opinion Terminator should be left alone and this movie should have never been made. Its not a great Franchise to hold on to it like this, give it a break hollywood stop destroying everything. If star-wars could not keep going then terminator doesn't stand a chance. Terminator first movie was great, but all the others have been ok at best, it was not three great movies that screamed for three more!!! sorry everyone don't get your hopes up high.

To Damemph: Terminator was a good movie. But Terminator 2 was great. Most people will consider that as the best terminator. Not just OK at best. Terminator 2 is how you make a sequel that not only adds to the first but surpasses it in every way. Terminator 3 was an ok movie at best as you say. Don't know about Salvation will see it next week.
