Warner Bros. Developing Primeval Movie

Variety reports that Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired film rights to Primeval, the ITV series that airs in the U.S. on BBC America and SCI FI Channel.

Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster will produce through Goldsman's WB-based Weed Road.

In the series, ferocious prehistoric and futuristic creatures appear through wormhole time portals, and a covert team headed by an evolutionary scientist tries to close the doors and quietly thwart the creatures.

The series, which has run three seasons, was co-created by Tim Haines and Adrian Hodges and produced by Haines' company, Impossible Pictures.

"There is a solid mythology to the series, but the movie has the dinosaur element of 'Jurassic Park' and the time travel element of 'Lost,' and it just feels like the kind of big movie that Warner Bros. does well," Foster said.

Can't wait! Primeval is a great show. Hopefully they will include the same actors.

Hmmmmm... I tried the series, was a little too Land of The Lost for my taste. They should do Battlestar if they have to make a series a movie. Or FarScape. Or Painkiller Jane.

Primeval is terrible the cgi is so bad I have seen better on PS1 cutscenes.

It really is awful it was a quick idea from ITV to try and lure some of Doctor Who's fans to their channel once it was on it's break.

It's a bit of fun. I seriously hope they include the British actors and setting, as the show relies heavily on the WEIRDNESS of Dinosaurs attacking mild-mannered Brits in mundane London locations. It's all part of the humour of the show (Which unlike Lost, doesn't take itself too seriously) and if they do relocate it to the States, at least acknowledge the original team.

And PS: The special effects are done by Framestore, part of the same company that the effects for The Dark Knight.
