A Cliffhanger Reboot is in the Works

StudioCanal has announced that it will be teaming with Neal Moritz's L.A.-based Original Films to reboot 1993's Cliffhanger, the action adventure thriller directed by Renny Harlin and starring Sylvester Stallone.

Variety says the new version will center on a group of young climbers. "Just as they rebooted 'Star Trek,' we're going to do the same with 'Cliffhanger,'" said Moritz, who will produce. Unlike the original, where Italy stood in for the Colorado Rockies, the new redo looks set to feature multiple cliff-face locations.

Moritz (Fast & Furious) and StudioCanal are looking to attach a screenwriter for a 2010 shoot.

Moritz is already producing an $80 million-plus remake of Escape from New York for Warner Bros.-New Line and StudioCanal. And Universal and StudioCanal are co-financing the Moritz-produced narrative remake of documentary The Complete History of My Sexual Failures, with Jay Roach attached to direct.

WHAT???!!! I kind of like the original movie for what it was at the time: a descent straight-up action flick.

Leave the Sly movie alone. I'll be P'Oed if they ever remake "Rocky"

Reboot? Cliffhanger? Just yesterday I overheard a bunch of people at the mall clamoring for a Cliffhanger reboot. I guess they're going to get it!

Another unnecessary remake. So much for original material from Hollywood. Hey writers and actors, go on strike. If the studios are pushing garbage like this, it would be best if up and coming actors or established actors weren't anywhere near this, the Total Recall remake and Escape From New York. Man, these studios are going to ruin my childhood.

Grrr....

Who the hell wants to see that?! People wanna see badass Sly climb mountains and fend off bats. Preferably punch a few faces as well. Not another bunch of overly beautiful yippies in distress..

Sly should pop up in the last scene with a chaingun and kill them all and go "There can be only one...CLIFFHANGER."
