Brett Ratner Off Conan

Empire magazine spoke to Conan and Red Sonja producer Joe Gatta, who said that Brett Ratner is not attached to direct the former anymore:

"We're currently in the process of hiring a director," he told us. "For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn't work. But you never know what can happen."

Gatta added that they are hoping to start production on Conan on August 24 in Bulgaria, while Red Sonja would start sometime next year.

Pity! The Last Stand was actually the best of these X-Men Movies... And the first two Rush Hour Movies were really cool!

The Last Stand was terrible. It's the worst X-men movie, and one of the worst comic book movies of all time. You're retarded.

Presumably Lemmy is joking. Either way, it's a very good thing for the studio that Ratner is gone, because they need a director with a bit more subtlety than Ratner for this project. Back in the 80s, it would've been fine to have a hamfisted director at the helm, but nowadays, fantasy action films that are just pure action and no style or story are going to bomb, every time.

With Brett directing, I could totally see him casting Chris Tucker as Conan. And then Jackie Chan would cross dress and play his asian whore as they'd fight big austrians on vacation in Europe.

And the sad part is, people would pay to see it.

Thank god. You know, I actually love Rush Hour 1 and 2 and Money Talks, but I just didn't have the confidence in Brett to handle Conan. He's too much (I think) of a slick, summer comedy guy, I just don't see him having an innate understanding of sword and sorcery stuff. Conan needs to be done JUST right. It needs to be a reboot, yet honoring of the original works, it needs to be visually spectacular and violent as ****, with a rousing score and a great actors' cast.

Neil Marshall would be damn near perfect!
