Katie Holmes will star in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, a thriller for Miramax Films that was written by Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins, reports Variety.

Del Toro is producing with Mark Johnson and the film will be directed by del Toro protege Troy Nixey.

The film will shoot this summer in Melbourne as a "Guillermo del Toro Presentation."

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is based on a 1973 ABC telepic about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.

They're filming in Australia?

Boo she's a you know

But yeah Are You Afraid of the Dark is awesome but this film is already hurt because she's not the greatest of actors plus del Toro is just producing because he's stuck up with The Hobbit.

And I can't mention The Orphanage because unfortunately I haven't seen it...

"The Orphanage" was awesome. Anything with Del Toro's name attached to it is worth a look. I'm glad he's still producing things that reflect his style and creativity, because it's a long time to wait for "The Hobbit".

I really don't think Katie Holmes is that bad (Pieces of April, The Gift) and I think she gets kind of a bum rap because she's married to Tom Cruise, and fanboys HAAAAAATE Tom Cruise. Del Toro's attachment makes me think this won't be bad at all.

I mean, I can't really think of a bad movie he's been involved with in the past decade. I'm willing to give Guillermo the benfit of the doubt.

This should be interesting. Holmes is actually a damn good actress who makes interesting choices (anyone here seen films such as 'The Ice Storm', 'The Gift', 'Abandon', or 'The Singing Detective'?)

and I don't hate Tom Cruise, CY. Then again, I have no idea what you mean by 'fanboys.' I think he's also incredibly talented. One of the best actors to grace the screen. (see 'Magnolia' or 'Born on the Fourth of July' ...or just get over disliking him, and you'll realize he's good in anything.)

this movie should be fantastic. Pan's Labyrinth was a great fantasy picture, and The Orphanage is the best horror movie to be released in the past five years, if not more. Guillermo del Toro is the most imaginative mind in filmmaking at the moment.

Her acting talent is subpar at best. What a shame! I was ecstatic to hear she wouldn't be reprising her role as Rachel in Batman, she did the franchise a huge favor.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is based on a 1973 ABC telepic about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.

The above information is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Its about a woman(played by Kim Darby) who moves into a house with her husband (played by Jim Hutton). It is not about a young girl who moves into a house with her father and his girlfriend. But I have the feeling thats what the new script will focus on. to bad they hired a non-actor in the female lead.

Does this mean we'll see Tom Cruise in the Jim Hutton role, as the annoying, distracted husband who doesn't take his wife seriously... UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE?!?
