Angelina Jolie to Play Cornwell's Dr. Kay Scarpetta

Variety reports that Fox 2000 is acquiring screen rights to author Patricia Cornwell's best-selling book series on medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, to develop as a vehicle for Angelina Jolie.

Mark Gordon will produce with Media Talent Group's Geyer Kosinski. The studio, producers and Jolie are meeting with writers and will set one shortly. Bryan Zuriff will serve as executive producer.

There are 16 Scarpetta novels, meaning a franchise is hoped for, but this film won't be tied to a specific Cornwell mystery title, adds the trade. The opera-loving coroner Scarpetta will be the lead in a suspense thriller in the vein of The Silence of the Lambs and Seven.

that would mean that Jolie would be required to act...hmmn cant see that happening any time soon. Having read some of Cornwell's books AJ does not have the class for the character she is mooted to be playing

I agree... I've always thought that Holly Hunter would be an ideal Kay Scarpetta...

Watch A Mighty Heart & Changeling before you say she can't act...& don't forget Girl Interupted.

I agree, Jolie's performance in A Mighty Heart was brilliant and haunting.

We already have about 1,000 versions of CSI on television without needing one on the bigscreen too.

She doesn't even qualify to be called an actress unless you count her personal life. That is a pathetic act!

Personally I don't see it. Nothing against Angelina but I've read all the books and I can't see her in that role.

Just a quick note; to the anti Jolie posters, the Academy of Arts & Sciences doesn't give bad actors oscars.
