Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) is in talks to star opposite Nicole Kidman in Fox Searchlight's big screen adaptation of David Lindsay-Abaire's Broadway play Rabbit Hole, reports Variety.

John Cameron Mitchell (Shortbus) is directing and Kidman is producing through her Fox-based Blossom Films.

Lindsay-Abaire is adapting his story of a happily married couple whose lives are disrupted after their 4-year-old son is killed in a traffic accident and the redemptive journey they must undertake to regain happiness.

Great choice of director, Kidman should be good, but I'm not sure that she and Eckhart are a good couple.

For some reason I seem to think Jim Carrey in serious mode would better suit the role. Sue me.

I also would love to see Jim Carrey and Nicole together as a couple but I have a feeling this will also be good with The Dark Knight!

AP 2/5/12.
Rabbit Hole was finally realeased to 2 venues today after being reschedualed multiple times. No critic screenings were provided before release. Fox had been touting "Hole" as a possible 2010 Oscar contender as late as November of that year, right before pulling the release for the first time. Reshoots were ordered with a new makeup artist and new release dates were twice added and removed during 2011. Aaron Eckhart, who has since made a surprising late-careet shirt to automotive repair, maintains that..."my Rabbit Hole experience in no way factored into my decision to change careers, not really." Nicole Kidman recently signed contracts with both Paramount and WB to star in two new big budget pictures reportedly getting $20 million per pic.

this is a wonderful play, and kidman is a wonderful actress, but i really just can't see her in such a role. i really think she'll do an AWFUL job, and also think that someone like kate winslett or laura linney would have been a much, much better choice. also, i love eckhart, but with kidman?!?!?! i do not see them having chemistry AT ALL
