Arnett and Shannon Board Jonah Hex

April 1, 2009

Will Arnett and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon will star in Jonah Hex, Warner Bros. and Legendary's action Western based on the DC Comics character, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Jimmy Hayward is directing the film, whose cast also includes Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Megan Fox. It's the story of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of the undead to liberate the South.

Arnett will play a Union soldier who enlists Hex and is blindsided by the dirty fighting style of his enemies. The role is not inherently comic.

Shannon plays Doc Cross Williams, the bizarre ringleader of a brutal gladiator circus event. The character might appear in sequels.

Legendary is co-producing and co-financing the pic, which is due to start production this month in Louisiana.

I do love Michael Shannon, and Will Arnett's okay in my book. This is actually starting to look pretty solid.

Damn this is looking nice. Will Arnett can be pretty awesome and Malkovich is badass. We need more badass westerns.

I can't wait for this movie! All 5 members of the cast so far are great! Wonder what it'll be like to see Arnett in a serious role. That voice was made for action movies.

Once DC are done with Jonah Hex, I'd like to see them do a Lobo movie.

A biker movie set in space, with a splash of western/bounty hunter genre thrown in.

Lobo would be hilarious. Loved the character on the recent Superman cartoon not to mention the fact that he was voiced by Brad Garrett. Hey why not cast Garrett as Lobo in the flesh this time around.

I really hope they move away from the supernatural aspect and focus more on the spaghetti western elements.

Westerns and western fantasy movies always fail today. I wish they didn't but they do. Audiences simply don't bother with them.
