Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures has attached Josh Schwartz to write and direct a feature based on Jay McInerney's novel "Bright Lights, Big City." The announcement was made today by Mary Parent, Chairman, Worldwide Motion Picture Group, MGM.

"City" concerns a young magazine editor from Kansas who struggles with love and success in the wilds of the New York City. Previously adapted as a film in 1988, it is undecided if the new film will retain the 80s setting.

"This has long been a favorite book of mine... I love coming of age stories and this one remains one of the most poignant, funny, and timeless. Much of what it explores feels even more relevant now than when it was first published," commented Schwartz.

Schwartz will produce with Stephanie Savage. Vice President of Production Becky Sloviter will oversee for the Lion.

Schwartz is currently writing X-Men: First Class and along with Savage is the co-creator and executive producer of the CW series "Gossip Girl." The pair first worked together on "The O.C.," which Schwartz created and Savage developed. Schwartz also created and executive produces "Chuck" on NBC.

It's a great novel and there's also a musical about it too with Patrick Wilson and Jesse Martin.

Michael J. Fox was awesome in that movie, loved the scene where he's totally getting smashed with the lead editor, great stuff.

Michael J. Fox, I love that name!

Given the right script and director this could be a good one. I nominate James Franco & Columbus Short

whats the point of this movie?
they can't top Michael J Fox's movie.
The novel was written in the 80s and only an 80s setting works for the novel.
pathetic remake!

With so many good unfilmed novels out there, I can't stop wondering why Hollywood adapts some novels over and over again."

Amen... In fact, if they want to adapt a Jay McInerney, then I say make a movie out of his book "Ransom."
