Spider-Man 4 Script Due this Summer

March 31, 2009

Sam Raimi told SCI FI Wire that David Lindsay-Abaire's script for Spider-Man 4 should be ready by summer.

Raimi said the film has to make the announced May 6, 2011 release date. "We have to make the release date, and on all of these pictures, the 'Spider-Man' films--and I'm sure it's the same as with many of the other bigger-budgeted films--they have release dates far in advance of a screenplay," he said. "So it's about getting it ready the best you can in time for the first day of production. That's what we've always done, and that's what we'll try to do again."

The helmer also told Empire magazine he will have full control over the fourth installment - something he didn't have on the third. "They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually," he said. "But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn't really have creative control, so to speak."

He added that "The best way for me to move forward on films, is that I've got to be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film. I love Spider-Man so much that I'd like to continue telling Spider-Man stories. But only under those circumstances where I think I can honour him."

well, that puts me at ease knowing he has singular creative control. i lost faith for a while in raimi, but it probably wasn't a fair thing for me to do, more of a gut reaction to the debacle that was spider-man 3.

Pretty cool. I just hope they do this sequel right unlike the horrible Spider Man 3. Hopefully they will have only one antagaonist. It seems like when comic book movies try to put too many main villians in one movie they dont have enough time to tell why the villian is doing what they are doing. Spider Man 1 and 2 were great because they had only one villian. But with the third one they had about, what 2 or 3? Whatever how many they had it was a lot, and as such couldnt spend enough time telling the audience why the villians were doing what they are doing, which means that you dont care wheter they live or die or the conflicts they have with the protagonist. Hopefully the writters have learned this time around. Just focus on one villian, unless you go the dark knight and batman begins route where you have one main villian and 1 or 2 small, minor villian.s

This is probably going to be good because Raimi's in control. Can't wait?

Anyone else think Raimi should make this next Spidy flick a badass Rated R Carnage movie? Or atleast a strong PG 13. Might help him after the debacle that was spidy 3. Just a thought.

I'm not one for multiple villians, but I think Kraven and Lizard could work well together...

Like if the "famous hunter" was brought to New York by the appearance of a strange beast, etc etc..
