Gatchakan.blog26.fc2.com has posted a photo of a new poster for Imagi Studios' Gatchaman, to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The poster features Joe Asakura, the second-in-command of the superhero ninja team.

"Gatchaman" originated in Japan in the early 1970s as the television series "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman." Aired in the U.S. as "Battle of the Planets" and "G-Force," it soon became a widely popular syndicated TV series.

The film is set in a future world grappling with environmental and technological issues. The story focuses on five reluctant heroes whose remarkable genetic code makes them Earth's only hope of defeating extra-terrestrial invaders.

Whats up with the sudden love Hollywood has for Anime now? I guess its the flavor of the month, just like how Pengiuns were a couple of years back.

Ummm, why did they drop Battle of the Planets in lieu of Gatchaman?? I don't care if it's the Japanese name, it sounds like a horror movie.

This is a case of bad P.R.

That name is pretty ridiculous. No wonder they changed it in the U.S. Sounds like a bad recurring SNL character who goes around saying "Gotcha!" to everybody.

You guys suck! This movie is for fans of the series who knows where its roots came from. Battle of the Planets was the watered-down U.S. version for kids, the original series dealt with adult themes, and was very violent. Keeping with the original name Gatchaman means that they're going for the original flavor instead of the "New Coke" flavor. Do your research!
