Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has signed on to helm Summit Entertainment's If I Stay, based on Gayle Forman's novel of the same name which will be published spring of 2009 by Dutton Children's Books, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group.

Erik Feig, Summit's President of Production, stated, "When we were thinking of the perfect director to capture the emotion, grace, and passion of this beautiful book, one filmmaker became the clear and only choice: Catherine Hardwicke. Summit and Catherine have had enormous success working together on 'Twilight' and we cannot wait to bring 'If I Stay' to vivid life together as well."

If I Stay is the story of the gifted classical musician Mia and her boyfriend, Adam, an up and coming indie-rock star. Torn between two paths in life, her art or her relationship, Mia is forced to make an even starker choice between life and death when she is caught in a fatal car accident with her family one snowy morning in Oregon.

Any average director could have made Twilight a success because all the teen girls would go see it anyway.

Be amazed if Hardwicke can do anything in a different genre and pull it off?

Bad writer gets hired to direct a bad movie. I guess it works just fine.

Yeah...Hardwicke has never really proved herself as a director. "Thirteen" was all about the script and cast. There's no indication she brings anything special to this project either.

Interesting. I guess the rift between Hardwicke and Summit that caused her not to be selected to direct "New Moon" has been resolved.

Ok I guess no one has seen Lords of Dogtown and I thought that she did an amazing job with that film. NOT just anyone could directed Twilight, even though there was a lot of bad, I don't think anyone could of done it better then Catherine, even with the budget that she had. Lay off of her she gave twilight that indie feel and made it likeable.

AHHH!!!Twilight should have NEVER have had an "indie" feel...its a freaking FICTION/FANTASY movie!!!SHE RUINED IT!!! I'm not sorry!!! She made Twilight a FREAKIN MUSIC VIDEO!!CUTT OUT IMPORTANT PARTS OF THE BOOK, AND THEN MADE THE AWFUL DECISION TO GIVE IT A REAL LIFE FEEL!!HELLO!!!It wasn't supposed to be reality Kat, it wasn't a documentary about Bella...which is what she did to the movie...THANK GOD FOR THE NEW DIRECTOR...now she can ruin this film...haha! Not all the blame should be put on her though...Kirsten Stewart was also to blame...she sucks...she's reeeaaalllyyy bad at acting...
