New Line is reteaming with Walden Media and ContraFilm for a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, reports Variety.

The sequel is based on Richard Outten's script Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island, in which Prof. Trevor Anderson and his nephew embark on a journey to a mysterious island that was the subject of three classic novels (Jules Verne's "Mysterious Island," Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" and Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels").

Journey to the Center of the Earth, starring Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutcherson and Anita Briem, earned $101 million domestically and another $140 million overseas this summer.

Eric Brevig, who directed "Journey" but has not yet committed to helm "Mysterious Travels," is working with Outten to develop the script for the sequel.

But at the end of the first movie, didnt they hint at Atlantis being the next adventure by giving his nephew that book? Wonder what happened to that idea.

This sounds like it will be an ok movie ,but i would like to see a serious adult take on the journey to the center of the earth like they did for the origina, for i think if done right it could be amazing

I think that Journey was a great fun flick, I went and saw it in 3D you know, had nothing to do that afternoon and it was a great way to spend a couple hours, people will never stop hating when they have no lives...

But anyways, yeah they did hint at Atlantis, but honestly, Atlantis is a HUGE undertaking, I mean, I would expect that to be the third film at LEAST...I'm happy they're not doing it second. I'm stoked they're continuing though, as long as they keep the same actors though, we're good to start a new franchise since Frasers "Mummy" series is pretty much...dead...looking forward to this...

If people on here think it sounds dumb or they hate it, why are they on here reading about it? Just go to another post & leave people who might be interested in it alone.
