Robin Hood is Coming in May of 2010

Universal Pictures has scheduled a May 14, 2010 release for director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett.

The other releases scheduled for May of 2010 so far are Iron Man 2 (May 7), Shrek Goes Fourth (May 21) and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28) - so there's no direct competition for these four films yet.

Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Blanchett), a strong, independent woman.

they cant beat robin hood prince of theives!
that is the best robin hood movie and will remain so!

I think if it's done like Gladiator was, but set in nottingham and sherwood forest it should be pretty good, can't really go wrong with Crowe..

Robin Hood prince of thieves was a good movie... but Robin Hood speaking with an American accent?!! 0_o

At least Crowe is from Australia and can make an English accent really well. And this movie looks like it's going to be really good. You can't go wrong with Ridley Scott and Crowe making a film together once again!

Kevin Costner's Prince of Thieves ruled!! But I also won't mind seeing a gritty Robin Hood containing nice violence and good dramatic scenes. I'm no fan of Crowe though, to me he just comes off has bland in every role I watch him in.

Is it just me, or is that going to be a pretty crowded May lineup? I've always always felt that comicbook/adventure type movies belong int he summer, but fantasy-type stuff (which is what I would label Prince of Persia) should screen in the fall or winter. In other words, even though I'm excited about Prince of Persia, my guess is Disney is making a huge mistake a la "Prince Caspian" by releasing in May. They're going to have another--totally preventable--box office flop on their hands.
