Fresnadillo to Direct X-Ray Remake

Spanish helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has made a deal with MGM to develop a film based on director Roger Corman's 1963 pic X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes, says Variety.

The original starred Ray Milland as a scientist who is near a breakthrough in X-ray vision technology when his funding is cut off. Desperate to show results, the doc applies eye drops that eventually cause him to lose control over his growing powers.

Mandeville Films partners David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce with Enrique Lopez Lavigne. Lou Arkoff will executive produce.

Poor MGM. Milking their library again and again for remakes and reboots or whatever. I really thought Harry Sloan would bring some "panache" to the table. "Lucky # Slevin" was a clever and new MGM film.

I actually really liked 28 Weeks Later. I prefer it to it's predecessor, 28 Days Later. Fresnadillo showed a lot of potential with that film (particularly when you consider it was his first english language film) so maybe his remake of X will be worth watching.

Clopin,
Lucky # Slevin was not original or unique. It was based on Yojimbo, which itself was based on Hammet's The Glass Key and Red Harvest. Do you watch any older films or read any books?

I recall that this was one of Tim Burton's dream projects for more than a decade. I thought that if anyone was going to get this done, it'd be Burton.

Touché! Thanks for your kind words. Well said. I didn't know L#S was a remake itself. Which doesn't speak for me - and unfortunately adds one more to MGM's poor strategy.

Clopin,
Sorry for the snottiness. However, it might make for a decent remake, although I'm loathe to say so.

Lucky # Slevin was from the Weinsteins. MGM just distributed it theatrically.
