J.J. Abrams on the Future of Cloverfield

At the Star Trek panel at WonderCon, director J.J. Abrams was asked about the progress on making sequel to their monster hit (ha ha) Cloverfield, which opened last year to set a couple of box office records.

"We're actually working on an idea right now," Abrams told the packed crowd. "The key obviously at doing any kind of sequel, certainly this film included, is that it better not be a business decision. If you're going to do something, it should be because you're really inspired to do it. It doesn't really have to mean anything, doesn't mean it will work, but it means we did it because we cared, not because we thought we could get the bucks. We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we're playing with, which means there will be something that's connected to 'Cloverfield,' but I hope it happens sooner than later because the idea is pretty sweet."

I wonder if it'll be called cloverfield 2. I hope they come up w/ some other random name that still has meaning.
I liked the idea of the first, and a sequel would be cool. Should do pretty well too

its not a mystery!! it crashed into the water from space!! you can see it at the very end when they're on the ferris wheel in the background something really big falls into the water from the sky its wicked! Seeing a second one would be pretty awesome

Yeah, this is a good idea. But, he can't do the shaky camera thing again (didn't work for the Blair Witch sequels). I personally would like to see the post-monster destruction story. Don't want to see another Godzilla, but at least look into killing the beast. J.J. is a fairly smart person so I'm sure he'll figure something out.

bringing this back to the topic at hand... I have watched the end of cloverfield 4 or 5 times and never saw this large object fall...

If you never saw the monster at the end then you must be high or something. It's easy to miss but it is certainly there. Look closely into the deep distance of the very last shoot after the tape cuts back to an earlier vacation

It wasn't the Monster falling from Outer Space! A Satellite feel from the sky, which woke up the monster.

the reason Blair witch project 2 didn't work is bc the movie makers gave in the the greed and made a movie that on something that had no other thought given to it other than a single movie. Just by watching cloverfield you can tell that it was left wide open and many different ways. They can do a prequel, a sequel or the same story from a different perspective. the possibilities are many. As foe what feel from the sky. Watch the Enhanced viewing mode on the blu ray, It rock but any way. It was an egg. the monster was a baby lose and lonely. CLOVERFIELD ROCKED

I did like Cloverfield. However, the shaky camera made me sick during the movie. My head hurt for 3 hours afterward. Please do a sequal, but without the shaky camera
