Set in Roman Egypt in the fourth century A.D., Weisz plays astrologer-philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria, who fights to save the collected wisdom of the ancient world. Her slave Davus (Max Minghella) is torn between his love for his mistress and the possibility of gaining his freedom by joining the rising tide of Christianity.

Ugh. Historical accuracy be damned, I suppose. The Egyptians weren't WHITE!

"It looks poo! Who is this filmed at?" I think you better hurry off back to Yale, young man!

The cinematography doesn't look all that great, I'll admit. It does seem like they're pushing it to look more like a thriller/action film than anything else, which is wrong, I think. It could still be a good film. Too early to tell, for me.

Inaccuracies be damned, indeed.

Inaccuracies?

The movie is set in Roman Egypt. So yes, actually, a lot of the Egyptians would be white. They show native Egyptians in the trailer as well, who have darker skin.

Why am I getting a 10,000 B.C vibe from this ?!?...But, after all, Rachel Weisz is in this, so I'll probably end up seeing it!
