Universal Pictures has attached Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise) to develop Clue, a live-action murder mystery based on the Hasbro board game that he would direct, reports Variety.

Verbinski will produce through his Universal-based Blind Wink company, along with Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir, who also have an overall deal at the studio.

Verbinski will next direct Bioshock for Universal.

"Clue" is one of the few board games to surpass $1 billion in sales, in more than 50 markets. It was developed in England by a retired legal clerk named Anthony Pratt during WWII and released in 1948.

A previous film version was released in 1985.

Clue will be turned into a mystery that Blind Wink's Jonathan Krauss called "A global thriller and transmedia event that uses deductive reasoning as its storytelling engine."

Since they are making it a thriller, I think it could be cool. If they were just remaking the original comedic film, then I'd have issues (because yes, that film is perfect), but making a mystery/thriller version would be interesting, especially utilizing modern viral marketing techniques to get fans and such involved with the solving of the crime. That could be very cool. Plus, Gore Verbinski kicks ass, not just cuz of the "Pirates" films, but because he's got a very diverse resume.

I dont know about this. The first movie is classic!! Great, REAL comedy! Comedy where the writers actually had to be funny and talented. Not like how it is now a days, with drugs, sex and toilet humor in EVERY "comedy" out there today. I really hope Verbinski does this justice! But it will probably never be anywhere near as good as the original!

Isn't making it a "global thriller" kind of the antithesis of the game?

Besides, it probably won't even have 3 endings like the original did. :(

One thing i like about the original was the alternate endings and hopefully they'll use that.
