Ang Lee Helming Life of Pi

Ang Lee is in talks to direct Life of Pi, the Fox 2000 adaptation of Yann Martel's coming-of-age survival tale.

The novel revolves around a youth who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a hungry Bengal tiger.

The project has been through several incarnations, first with screenwriter Dean Georgaris, then M. Night Shyamalan. Lee will supervise a new script. The studio will hire a writer shortly.

Anything Ang Lee touches is gold. Yes, even Hulk, which is absurdly underrated.

Hulk isn't underrated at all. But that's because Ang Lee's skills don't really apply to action. However, he is PERFECT for this project. I'll keep this on my list of projects to keep an eye on.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet came to my school 2 years ago and said he was working on a script for it.

Does anyone know what happened with that?

This is one of my favourite books. The movie is never going to be as good, but it should be interesting to see what Lee does with it. I actually think Shamalayan would have been better suited, mind you - he's Indian like the protagonist and there is kind of a twist in the story, (which is his speciality).

Better Ang Lee than M. Night Shmappypants.

I think he'll do it well, though Jean Pierre is the absolute shiz-nit.
