Eckhart and Jenkins Join Rum Diary

February 10, 2009

Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins will star in Rum Diary, the adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel that stars Johnny Depp.

Eckhart is in negotiations while Jenkins is signed on for the movie, which Bruce Robinson adapted and is directing. Amber Heard also is on board.

Eckhart is part of a love triangle that sees him vying with Depp for Heard's affection. "Diary" is the tale of a washed-up, hard-drinking journalist named Paul Kemp (Depp) in 1950s Puerto Rico. Eckhart would play Sanderson, a wealthy landowner who believes everything has a price and introduces Kemp to a different standard of living.

Jenkins is playing Lotterman, the man who oversees the rundown newspaper where Kemp works.

The project, which Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Graham King are producing, begins shooting March 30 in Puerto Rico.

This movie had been talked about for years. I'm glad it's finally getting made. Fantastic, It is a great novel, and from the looks it's shaping up to be a great cast. Looking forward to it!

Sanderson is the bailout, he's not part of the love triangle, unless they're changing everything. In the book it is Kemp, Chenault, and Yeamon. I hope it stays that way.

First Johnny depp, and now Aaron Eckhart?!?
This movie is gonna rock.
I mean have yall seen Eckhart´s silent rise to glory?, he´s like chancelor Palpatine, he works silently and in the shadows, with the right amount of exposure to big events, and when time is right , BAM!! he´ll get an Oscar sooner or later.

Bah! I'm a big fan of HST but Fear wasn't as good as the book, and I can't see the Rum Dairy turning out all that good either. Bah to hollywood stop ruining my books & comics!

Sanderson is mentioned in the book so rarely not a big part for A.E, unless they change the story and you're right he is not in the triangle maybe a Hollywood ploy to get the fans revved up, I mean Depp and Eckhart I wanna see that!
