Brett Ratner to Direct Youngblood

Reliance Big Entertainment has acquired Rob Liefeld's iconic graphic novel "Youngblood" for Brett Ratner to direct, reports Variety.

The company paid mid six figures for the rights to "Youngblood," about a superhero team sanctioned and overseen by the U.S. government.

"Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and 'Youngblood' is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential," Ratner told the trade. "It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted ('Youngblood'), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they're able to move."

Reliance has also acquired the rights to French graphic novel "Fly Wires" for Ratner's Rat Entertainment.

The project, which will be renamed Infinity, will be produced by Ratner, who has already tapped Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) to direct and John Collee ("Master and Commander") to write the script.

Both projects are being fast-tracked, although no decision has been made on whether they will eventually land at Paramount.

Hahaha, they already changed the title. Ratner is like smeared poo on a camera lens. You can see how bad it is, and it smells like sh_t. Not sure if that made sense but it sounded good in my head. poop.

Brett Ratner is the filmdom's equivalent of comic's Rob Liefeld, the creator of Youngblood. Over the top works and junk-filled crapfests describe their resume at best.

I don't get the Bret Ratner hate. I've enjoyed most of his movies. The Rush Hour flicks and his best movie is probably a tie between Red Dragon and The Family Man. Both very good.

I thought Ratner was going to do Beverly Hills Cop 4 next? And what Playboy? Or any of the other billion projects he has lined up?

I don't get the Ratner hate either. I thought X3 was the best of the series, it wasn't as hammy and as slow as the other two. And for what it's worth he made a great movie, I remember hearing he directed rush hour, and they were rushing to get it done, so I thought it was gonna be really really bad, but he still made it awesome. Red Dragon was also pretty good.

The only reason why I see people hating him is because he killed off like half of the main characters lol

I can't wait to see what he'll do with God of War.

I recently watched X-Men: The Last Stand and while I still think it's the weakest of the X-Men flicks it's still a pretty decent flick overall. It's just not nearly epic enough and would have benefited from being a good 15 to 30 minutes longer. But that's FOX's fault, not Ratner's. He did a pretty decent job overall.

Ratner ruined X-Men. Half the characters in the film are made up, or incorrectly matched with powers and names. Remember how Quill was Kid Omega? Remember how Callisto had super speed? Remember Ratner's s**tty editing where San Francisco went from day to night in 90 seconds? He's a terrible director, with terrible ideas, who thinks of himself as amazing. He's already ditched the name "Youngblood" so what makes you think this will be any good?

Sparrow - everything you mentioned seems to be a fault in the writing, not directing.

The script was already written when Ratner signed on in the last minute. All of the movie's flaws are FOX's fault for not having the movie be delayed for more rewrites. Ratner what was required of him. He kept the pace moving and delivered some competant action scenes. You can not blame Ratner for X-Men 3's flaws. It's FOX's fault for rushing it into production when the script wasn't where it needed to be yet. Another rewrite or two tops, is all it would have needed for a great movie.
