Spider-Man 4 May be Headed for Michigan

February 2, 2009

The Oakland Press says that director Sam Raimi may be coming back to his home state, Michigan, to shoot scenes for Spider-Man 4. Here are excerpts from the article:

Raimi is slated to begin production on "Spider-Man 4" in 2010, in fact and, he said, envisions shooting some of that movie in Michigan.

"I'll be looking at Michigan for our second-unit photography on the new 'Spider-Man' film," he confirmed.

The extensive infrastructure needed to crank out megabudget productions like the three "Spider-Man" movies he already has made has, for the most part, kept him in Hollywood, Raimi pointed out.

"Producers are always looking at the bottom line, and if they can get the same looking stuff somewhere else cheaper, they're going to shoot there," Rumble said.

Such was the case with "Spider-Man 3."

"It was cheaper to shoot in Ohio because the streets we were shooting on had storefronts that looked a little bit more like New York than Detroit did," Raimi explained. "But if the incentives Michigan has now had been in place, we would have had the money to adapt a set in Detroit."

Spider-Man 4 is expected to hit theaters in May of 2011.

WORD OF ADVICE: Stop making Spider- man and Batman movies...both franchises are dead...you have exhausted all storylines...Better eyt stop making superhero movies, they are lame and extremely unrealistic.

Umm, The Dark Knight was amazing. There are no new stories just new ways to tell them. I like most of the Spidey movies but I am a little bored with him. As for Batman, Bring it on. Why the hell would you only want "realistic" movies? I watch movies as an escape from reality.

Superhero movies are unrealistic? GASP! I did not know that?! People can't fly or shoot webs out of their hands? My entire conception of reality has been shattered!

Seriously. They are unrealistic because the are escapist entertainment. If you want to watch biopics, more power to you, but me and the rest of the geeks and nerds of the world will continue to enjoy superhero movies.

Don't know how I feel about Spider-Man 4 though. Spidey 3 really damaged the franchise for me, but I guess I will wait and see before I decide if I want to see it. But that is sweet that the Initative is getting films into Michigan.

Wait.. Why can't Batman and Spider-Man exhausted all their storylines?!? That must be why they're so unpopular!

Spider-Man (light and fun) can totally stand side by side with Batman (dark and mysterious) they tell 2 completely different kinds of stories.

Have to agree that Spidey 3 did some extensive damage to the franchise. personally, i feel that part 2 was the best of the 3. But the series falls into the trap that the previous Batman franchise did and they have killed off the villains. Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't mind a 4th one, but the studio heads need to keep their fingers out of it. They ruined the 3rd by forcing that week-a$$ Venom storyline (don't even get me started on that). I hate to use it as an example, but WB had enough faith in Christopher Nolan's vision for The Dark Knight and look at how great that was. Yes, it deviated from the comic book version, but it worked incredibly well.
