Dan Fogler confirmed today at the junket for Fanboys that he has joined the cast of Robert Zemeckis' Mars Needs Moms!.

Based on the 2007 children's book by Berkeley Breathed (best known for his long-running comic strip "Bloom County"), the story features a young boy who must come to his mother's rescue when she's kidnapped by martians.

Zemeckis will be directing the Walt Disney Pictures release, animating through the same motion-capture technique he used for The Polar Express, Beowulf and the upcoming A Christmas Carol.

It does look cute, probably gonna be interesting too. Beowulf was so much better than I expected, so keep em coming Rob, you seem to be getting better at the motion capture thing (unlike polar express) but even polar express was watchable.

That's cool and all, but I hope he gets back to old-fashioned film making soon.

Mars Needs Moms is a wonderful story. Short, to the point, and very VERY touching.

I'm excited - yet a slight bit weary of anticipating the on screen adaption. Still - if any film yet could translate well, it certainly would be this. The motion capture in Monster House was fun because they didn't try to photo-realise it. It'd be great if they went for a more cartoonized look with this film.

So... I guess that film version of The Corrections is never going to happen, seeing as how Zemeckis seems to be forever trapped in the Uncanny Valley.

I hate the look of motion capture....Next to Pixar's CG and Disney's hand drawn animation, this looks to be the ugly stepsister of teh Disney family!

It's amazing that a movie which has had nothing but two set photos is already hailed as the 'movie of the year...

Polar Express creeped me out. Uncanny Valley out the wazoo.
Beowulf bored me to tears.
Mildly interested in Christmas Carol in part due to the picture of Carrey done up as Scrooge. Looks much, much better than his last two efforts. If they make the people look like Breathed's artwork, that would be pretty cool. Maybe an Opus movie down the road? :D
