Lost Planet to Cost $150-200 Million to Make?

Capcom's "head of character contents business" Toshihiro Tokumaru was interviewed by his company, and while he talked a bit about the "Resident Evil" franchise and upcoming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, he made a big reveal about Warner Bros. Pictures' big screen adaptation of Capcom's Lost Planet:

Speaking of "Lost Planet", that project will cost somewhere between 150 and 200 million dollars to make. The producer on the project is Avi Arad, producer of Spider-Man. I think that it is because of our original IPs that we are able to try something so ambitious. When the game creators at Capcom develop a game, they think about everything from the main characters to the setting, which makes it easy to bring our games to the big screen. In game-making, we consider the main character's upbringing, interpersonal relationships, and their place in time. But in a game we can only show a cross-section of that. In Lost Planet for example, we can show the game's protagonist on a distant planet fighting against various foes, but we can't really show his interpersonal relationships. By developing that part of it on the movie screen, we can add substance to that world and expand it.

The full interview is located here.

David Hayter is writing the script for Lost Planet, which revolves around an expedition to an ice planet that harbors an energy source with the potential to save mankind.

They're gonna **** this up just like all the other video game movies made/being made. No surprise, dont know why they bother taking good games and making awful movies.

It's typical. Every video game movie isn't going to be like the game itself. So don't expect this to become exactly like Lost Planet.

They change it for a reason to make it different so nobody knows what exactly happens. If it did, it'd make the movie less enjoyable.

why bring halo into this? god, halo sucks. Atleast a movie would certainly blow away the game, but ive seen enough halo to last me forever. The premise for a movie of lost planet sounds pretty cool. Yeah, starship troopers on ice you retard.

Never played it, but I don't trust in big screen adaptations of Capcom games. Resident Evil was decent but the new SF Legend of Chun Li screams possible failure. It's too bad they can't do a Dead Rising flick as a zomcom. It would be too much like the Dawn of the Dead remake, but IMO would make for an entertaining movie.

well you know the average hollywood blockbuster, cost to 150 to 200.
so if they want bank for this one, chances seem little. Cause really not that many people, play video games, and haven't heard of it.
So imposible to say it could end up like the certain man of steel. Hardcore, the ones that are still playing the online, are the one excited. For me i just see it as another excuse, to see another bug film.

I love Capcom games. Pretty much all of them. Im a huge fan of Resident Evil. Reading this interview gives me hopes that they will resurrect the Franchise with true adaptations after they start financing their own movies. RE has the potential to be the scariest most intense horror movie made and the crap trilogy that hollywood produced was truly embarrassing. I understand the Company had to make sacrifices to be able to get to this point anyway just like Marvel did. Street Fighter will definitely fail at the box office. Looking forward to an actual Capcom made Street Fighter movie in the future. Lost Planet has potential as well seeing as its at Warner Bros. Heres hoping.
