Whitaker Joins Ganis for Oscar Nominations

Nominations for the 81st Academy Awards® will be announced on Thursday, January 22, by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis and Oscar-winning actor and Academy member Forest Whitaker.

Ganis and Whitaker will unveil the nominations in 10 of the 24 award categories at a 5:30 a.m. news conference at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world will be gathered. Nominations information for all categories will be distributed simultaneously to news media in attendance and via the Internet on the official Academy Awards Web site, Oscar.com.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2008 will be presented on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Wall-e, Slumdog, Milk, Ben Button, and The Wrestler for Best picture.

The Dark Knight will not get nominated for it.

Dark Knight should get nominated but has no hope. Heath Ledger will win though. But the score won't b/c they always pick boring uninspiring scores (finding neverland anyone?).

As for best movie - Slumdog, well its a low-budget independent feel good story...so what if no one gave a flip about it...they THINK its the best even if they didnt see it. lol. Wrestler or Milk should win but Golden Globes lead the way unfortunately.

actually of the last six golden globe best picture winners only 1 (LOTR) has won the oscar... the last 4 golden globe winners haven't won the academy award for best picture

Danny, certainly one of his better roles sure but that's just wishful thinking. :)

DARK KNIGHT should totally get crack at Best Picture.
