The Rum Diary Next for Johnny Depp?

First announced in May of 2005, could The Rum Diary finally be moving forward with Johnny Depp starring?

TheBadandUgly.com has received a casting announcement that suggests the Hunter S. Thompson adaptation will be Depp's next, as it lists a March 2009 start date. Depp will play Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist writing for a rundown newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico and surrounded by a bunch of lost souls bent on self-destruction. Bruce Robinson wrote the screenplay and will direct.

Depp previously starred in the big screen adaptation of Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."

Thank god, about freaking time. I hope Depp makes Hell's Angels too one day. Since he and Hunter were became such good friends and all. "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" IS my favorite film of all time, great stuff. Then Johnny went off and got friendly. All his old stuff is his best stuff. Finally he is going back to what he did best.

This better be next. I am tired of him doing all this terrible popcorn flicks. They're terrible. All of them. Just like the majority of his resume, aside from a few gems. But this will be his best.

They will be doing another Pirates. Depp does like 3-4 films a year. This is his first for 2009. If they did Pirates 4 it wouldnt come out until Summer 2010 or 2011 anyway. So, don't worry. It's going to happen.
