At the motion picture box office, there is one man who keeps showing that nobody does it better: Bond. James Bond.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures'/Columbia Pictures' Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure, has taken in over $167.1 million to become the most successful Bond film of all time in North America, surpassing the $167 million grossed domestically by Casino Royale, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.

In addition, Quantum of Solace has grossed another $382.9 internationally, with the important market of Japan still yet to open. Taking in a worldwide gross so far of $550 million, Quantum of Solace is already the second-highest grossing Bond film of all time worldwide, trailing just "Casino's" $594.2 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "It is always gratifying when the audience responds to a film, but to be working with a character as successful as James Bond and see the two films Sony has handled become the two most successful films in the history of the franchise makes us all tremendously proud. It has been a special thrill to work on the Bond films, and we couldn't be more excited by the success of 'Quantum of Solace.'"

CASINO ROYALE was an amazing beginning, but I agree---QUANTUM OF SOLACE just didn't work! The villain was absolutely uninteresting and unthreatening, the plot was dull......I love the more realistic approach to Bond, but we have got to get back to a happy medium between QUANTUM and the ridiculous extreme that DIE ANOTHER DAY went to. We need mad villains, cool gadgets, insanely ambitious bad-guy schemes, scary henchmen.....and dammit, bring back Q and Moneypenny already! (And Daniel Craig won me over with CASINO ROYALE....it's not his fault, it was the script. Keep him.)

Has anybody else noticed that every scene in this movie begins with a fight and ends with a chase?

There is nothing special here. Brosnan actually started this phenomanen. After the two Timothy Dalton boxoffice duds, every bond movie Brosnan was in made more movie than the last one. And this trends continues thanks to Brosnan...

Before CR, the universally panned DAD made the most money of any bond movie. So this is not Daniel Craig speciality neither it has to mean QoS was the best bond movie.

Typo Edited;

And this trends continues thanks to Brosnan; the underappreciated and in my view the best bond since Connery.

I actually fell asleep in the theater watching this movie. This movie is no where NEAR as good as Casino Royale was. I just watched it on Blu Ray again, 2 nights ago, and it doesn't compare. Bring back Martin Campbell!

Most people miss the point of QoS: this is a Bond movie. The story is about Bond. The events in the movie are a slice of the life of someone who is evolving to become a cold blooded spy.

It is not about the bad guys in this film. It is not about the women or the locations. It is about Bond.

Taken in that context, it is a very good movie. The action and adventure is the icing on the cake, mere window dressing for the story of Bond.

Oh Lord! One of the worst Bond movies becomes the most successful one. "QoS" was a shallow and badly acted all-action-movie. It actually had no story at all. "Casino Royale" was based on a fine screenplay and, besides having great action scenes, tried to tell a very interesting story with round characters. "QoS" just ignored all that and looked like a typical Michael-Bay-movie: loud, flashy, no contents, flat and one-dimensional characters. The next Bond should be MUCH more "Casino Royale" than "QoS".

Very misleading headline! QOS is still almost 50 million dollars shy of CR's worldwide total.
