At the motion picture box office, there is one man who keeps showing that nobody does it better: Bond. James Bond.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures'/Columbia Pictures' Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure, has taken in over $167.1 million to become the most successful Bond film of all time in North America, surpassing the $167 million grossed domestically by Casino Royale, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.

In addition, Quantum of Solace has grossed another $382.9 internationally, with the important market of Japan still yet to open. Taking in a worldwide gross so far of $550 million, Quantum of Solace is already the second-highest grossing Bond film of all time worldwide, trailing just "Casino's" $594.2 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "It is always gratifying when the audience responds to a film, but to be working with a character as successful as James Bond and see the two films Sony has handled become the two most successful films in the history of the franchise makes us all tremendously proud. It has been a special thrill to work on the Bond films, and we couldn't be more excited by the success of 'Quantum of Solace.'"

Daniel Craig is the only true James Bond, the only one who has been totally faithful to Ian Fleming's character. A lot of you guys saying "I grew up with James Bond, this guy isn't Bond" grew up with a false idea of what kind of character Bond is--or rather, what he's supposed to be. Craig has been the only one to truly embody the character, but that must be jarring for people who are too accustomed to the ridiculous larger-than-life super spy that Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan transformed the character into.

I still think the producers of the Bond movies could have treated Pierce Brosnon a little better. After he did save the franchise after the disaster that was "Licence to Kill".
And if "Casino Royale" was so close to the book, and a "reboot" of the movie franchise,WHY was Judith Dench still M?

thats surprising. I wouldn't have thought it would be so popular, I for one didn'nt really enjoy it because alot of it was boring talking, and not enough smooth, somewhat easy to follow action

"motion picture box office"???..what is this 1906?

anyways, boxoffice mojo still say QoS is a few hundred thousand behind Royale..and since its making about 90 grand a day and about 1-2 million a weekend still, this announcment was a little premature..it should have waited till monday when the numbers are official cause right now everyone just looks like lyers

I can't understand what is not to like about QOS.

Director Marc Forster fearlessly brought real artistic value to every aspect of the movie, while keeping it true to its popcorn/crowd pleasing roots.

I'm so thankful it was made the way it was, and it definitely was one of my favorite movies of 2008.

"Bond died with Brosnan, There's no gadgets and no Q!". No way. The Brosnan Bond movies were utter crap. In the new Bond movies there are gadgets, but its never a focus, its never a point of discussion, like "check out my wrist watch telephone." Remember that scene in Die Another Day when Bond drives through the Ice Castle with his car? What the hell was that?!

"The action in this movie was terrible. It was like there was a bunch of cool things happening but the idiots behind the camera couldn't put anything coheret together." Yeah, I hear where you are coming from, but I don't think the movie was plagued by this problem. I think there was one scene in particular where it was quite shakey, and yeah, incoherent, but I think that was done intentionally, so that we in the audience felt confused, and disorientated, because when that scene ended, it was very abrupt and surprising. After that scene shakey-cam was not that prevalent in the mix.
