At the motion picture box office, there is one man who keeps showing that nobody does it better: Bond. James Bond.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures'/Columbia Pictures' Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure, has taken in over $167.1 million to become the most successful Bond film of all time in North America, surpassing the $167 million grossed domestically by Casino Royale, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.

In addition, Quantum of Solace has grossed another $382.9 internationally, with the important market of Japan still yet to open. Taking in a worldwide gross so far of $550 million, Quantum of Solace is already the second-highest grossing Bond film of all time worldwide, trailing just "Casino's" $594.2 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "It is always gratifying when the audience responds to a film, but to be working with a character as successful as James Bond and see the two films Sony has handled become the two most successful films in the history of the franchise makes us all tremendously proud. It has been a special thrill to work on the Bond films, and we couldn't be more excited by the success of 'Quantum of Solace.'"

How disappointing...This was poised to become the first Bond film to pass 200 million. It had the good WOM from CR, expectations were high, it opened very well then fell like a rock...At least the Holiday legs got it this far.

The thing about QUANTUM OF SOLACE is that it's just an okay. It's not horrible, but it's not great either and certainly not as good as CASINO ROYALE.

Here's hoping Marc Forster won't be directing the next one...

daniel craig is not james bond for us who grew up on james bond. there's no charisma, no bigger than life, no girls want him men want to be him. the movie makes just said people want gritty violent action heros so we will change james bond. now he's just another action spy and not james bond. if you guys like that then enjoy. as of me i saw royal and i'm done. i will be watching all of my old ones on dvd and remembering the fun of the real bond.

I like Daniel Craig, but this one really...well, bored the hell out of me. It was like a Bourne film ripoff, right down to the camera having a seizure during every action scene in the damn film.

On the plus side, such a high gross should mean they'll do another film starring Craig...hopefully one that is a lot better than Quantum.

167.1 and 167? yeah, that is not much more and ticket prices have gone up a lot, this is not new worthy, really stupid to even mention this about $100,000 more than the previous film

1. This is not the worst Bond movie. That honor goes to Man with the Golden Gun (just ahead of A View to a Kill and Die Another Day)

2. Craig is not the worst Bond actor. Not counting Lazenby (he was never an actor in the first place, just a model that they picked up), the worst is Roger Moore. By a mile.

3. The first Craig films are meant to be a trilogy, with QoS being the middle, action-heavy part...so perhaps it is best to watch them right after another? Having said that, I demand Martin Campbell come back. He did two great Bond films, I want a 3rd.

4. It's funny how Daniel Craig can rip off Jason Bourne in Casino Royale when it's based off the novel, which came out in I think 1957. And the only similarity to Bourne in Quantum is the shaky camera, which I never want to see in Bond again.

These Bond/Bourne comparisons make me laugh to no end. There really is no comparison. Bourne is just a piss-ant, pale imitation. Give me Bond any day. Hell, give me Ethan Hunt over Bourne any day for that matter.
