At the motion picture box office, there is one man who keeps showing that nobody does it better: Bond. James Bond.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures'/Columbia Pictures' Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond adventure, has taken in over $167.1 million to become the most successful Bond film of all time in North America, surpassing the $167 million grossed domestically by Casino Royale, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.

In addition, Quantum of Solace has grossed another $382.9 internationally, with the important market of Japan still yet to open. Taking in a worldwide gross so far of $550 million, Quantum of Solace is already the second-highest grossing Bond film of all time worldwide, trailing just "Casino's" $594.2 million.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "It is always gratifying when the audience responds to a film, but to be working with a character as successful as James Bond and see the two films Sony has handled become the two most successful films in the history of the franchise makes us all tremendously proud. It has been a special thrill to work on the Bond films, and we couldn't be more excited by the success of 'Quantum of Solace.'"

This really to too bad because Quantum is so not deserving of this honor. It was a hacky movie from start to finish.

Why does everyone dog on this movie? I went in to it after reading all these bull**** comments about no plot development or action and was blown away. Doesn't a car, boat, and plane chase scene do it for anybody anymore? Does he need to start blowing up entire planets or ripping heads off for people to think it had enough action? WTF! Quantum was a great addition.

@ Chuck - I agree, the movie was underwhelming to say the least. But "barely enough action to keep it entertaining"? It had *way too much* action on the contrary. I remember like seven or eight brawls, chases or plain gunfights which is above average quantity-wise, especially for a 105 minutes movie with barely any script to link them. If only said set pieces hadn't been subpar quality wise... Most disappointing 2008 movie, down there with Iron Man, Max Payne and Wanted.

I dont think some people are reading this correct. They're not saying it's the BEST Bond film, they're saying its the best one for bringing in the most money. and why the hell are some people saying there was hardly any action in it?!?!?!?! We get a damn fast paced Car Chase, a Boat Chase, a Plane Chase, a Foot Chase!? I mean for christ sake! Casino Royale had only 2 major action sequences in it, this one had 4 or 5! I mean COME ON!!!!!!

I like this movie more and more after every viewing. The first time I saw it I was up in the air about it, but now I think its a great Bond. Yes it is a tag on to Casino, and yes Casino was a better film, But it is still a worthy addition to the Bond Canon. And Craig is the greatest actor to play James Bond.

I think something you guys are forgetting is Daniel Craig is the worst Bond right behind George Lazenby. He rips off Matt Damon's character from the Jason Bourne movies and totally ruined the Bond franchise. The way I see it people went to see the last two Bond movies because they were needing a PG-13 action movie and that was the only one in the market. If the producers wanted to ruin a great franchise why didn't they cast John Lovitiz as Bond. That way we would known what to expect and they could have ruined the franchise with dignity.
