Warner Bros. Wants Watchmen Call Sooner

January 7, 2009

Fox and Warner Bros. had agreed to let Judge Gary A. Feess decide whether to issue an injunction against the Watchmen. The decision was scheduled for Jan. 20, but Warners is asking that the hearing be moved up to as early as Monday because "time is critical," the studio argues in papers filed this week.

Watchmen for a release on March 6th and the studio must soon commit to tens of millions of dollars in marketing for a film it isn't sure it can release.

The injunction fight stems from Feess' Christmas Eve preliminary ruling that Fox has a right to distribute the Zack Snyder adaptation of the popular graphic novel. Feess found that producer Lawrence Gordon failed to acquire Fox's entire interest in Watchmen, thereby leaving Fox with rights under a 1994 turnaround agreement.

wtf are you talking about Static?? its not Warner Bros. that is screwing this up it is Fox they are the ones that are trying to prevent it from being released in March, if Fox has its way it may not make it out this year or maybe even never be seen by anyone period.

Yes, it will. It just won't come out in March. I doubt the release being pushed back to 2011 is very realistic, too. It would probably just be later this year. I'd hate if that happened, but only because it's so close now.

I think it'll come out as scheduled. If FOX isn't stupid (financially that is) they'll want the money, and stalling it will make a major backlash, and simmer the immense hype around the movie.

I've got to say this again...anyone thinking this is FOXs fault are idiots. THEY OWN THE RIGHTS.

WB is partly at fault for doing all this promoting and advertising. Fox brought this suit forward back in February(to the courts) possibly even sooner to WB. That's a full year before this movie was supposed to be released. Fox just wants the money for the film because they legally held the rights to it, but WB won't budge after spending so much money on it. If WB doesn't give fox money its just as much their fault because they didn't straighten this out sooner.

FOX may legally be in the right, but they were sitting on Watchmen for 20 years, and werent going to do a damn thing about it. They purposefully let WB pour $150 million into this project, and want to ride the coattails. Rothman is such an assdouche.
