Universal Moves Wolfman, Nottingham and Fast & Furious

Universal Pictures has pushed back the release of Joe Johnston's The Wolfman from April 3 to November 6 and taken Ridley Scott's Nottingham out of 2009 entirely, reports Variety.

Also, the studio's Fast & Furious will now open on April 3, instead of June 12.

Nottingham, toplining Russell Crowe, will open in 2010, but the studio did not set a specific date.

Universal said the reshuffling was the sensible thing to do, considering that Fast & Furious is completed, while the Brian Grazer-produced Nottingham won't start filming until February or March.

And moving The Wolfman, starring Benicio Del Toro later in the year gives the film more of a high-profile release, as well as ample time for post-production.

I'm happy Universal is doing this. I thought they were going to start advertising for The Wolfman like three weeks before it comes out like they did with The Incredible Hulk and Mummy 3. I think Spielberg is already taking control of the distributor for the better. Kudos to whoever did make the decision to make the changes.

Son of a...

I know that this means "The Wolfman" will have proper time put into it and it will probably fair much better in early November than it will pre-Summer... but dammit, other than "Watchmen" this is the movie next year I'm most excited to see.

As far as "F&F," I didn't like the first one that much, much less any of the tired sequels (I already saw this movie back when it was called "Point Break"... seriously, the first F&F has the same story). And I figured as much with "Nottingham" only cuz they haven't even started anything yet other than casting Crowe.

But the Lon Chaney, Jr classic "Wolfman" was like my favorite film when I was a kid and I credit it to one of the reasons I got into 'films' and not just kids movies at such a young age, and therefore one of the reasons why I'm on this site all the time to begin with. I can't wait to see this!

Bummers. Sad to hear I'll have to wait that long for Wolfman and Nottingham...however, if the result is better quality and advertising, it's probably worth the wait.

What is with all of these movies being moved. There are going to be no movies for the rest of the year. Harry Potter, Wolfman, Nottingham, Fast and Furious and Watchmen.

Wolfman seemed weird from the Comic Con trailer. Was going to wait for DVD anyway.

Nottingham has been bantered so much I'll decide when there are some clips.

Fast and Furious will be good dumb fun and will do better in April I think. I like the first two, but not the 3rd, so bringing back the original cast was a good move. This also works well because it will opening in second run theaters like the one I work at in June so it will be like we get a summer movie really early.

They should move The Wolfman forward a week and bring it out for Halloween. That'd give it a higher profile.
