Next Bourne Based on The Parsifal Mosaic?

Producer Frank Marshall revealed today at The Curious Case of Benjamin Button where the next "Bourne" adventure might be headed, citing one of Robert Ludlum's books, "The Parsifal Mosaic" as potential source material.

Q: What's happening with "Bourne" now that you have access to the Robert Ludlum library?

Frank Marshall: Well, that's the good news. We now have access to all the Ludlum story ideas. We're going to make the fourth movie from them.

Q: And Matt's signed on?

Marshall: No, the only people signed on right now is George Nolfi, the writer, and me. We have to get a good script and then, hopefully, Matt will follow.

Q: Would this come at all from the new book, "The Bourne Betrayal"?

Marshall: No, the "Bourne Betrayal" was written by a friend of Ludlum's.... It had nothing to do with us.... We want to stay true to the original character.

Q: Any ideas for a "Bourne" title?

Marshall: Well, there's a lot of jokes. "Bourne Again," "Bourne Yesterday," "Bourne Free," "Bourne on the Fourth." I actually want to do that. Call it that and release the movie on the fourth.

Q: Would you want to do a straight adaptation from one of the novels?

Marshall: Actually, there is. "The Parsifal Mosaic" is one that we like.

"The Parsifal Mosiac," not a "Bourne" adventure as a novel, deals with a U.S. spy who falls in love with another spy who is revealed to be a double agent just before her death. When he retires from the business, though, the spy learns that she may still be alive and sets out to learn the truth.

Okay so no Jurassic Park 4 but a fourth Bourne? The fist one was good but that was it. They we're really pushing for a premise for the third movie.

Maybe Ludlum's book was partially based off of Iam Flemings novel.

That's what the two movies would go by, so i wouldnt base it on being a rip off of the movie, just similarities in the books and such.

I would say the best choice would be to go for a different Ludlum novel, just me though.

The Parsifal Mosaic is my favorite spy novel, hands down. I would rather it be filmed as itself, but I am still excited the story will see the big screen either way.

What I really appreciated most about the Bourne movies is that the love interest element played itself out in the beginning of the second film. The storyline behind Bourne was always about learning who he was and what is past was. They left the door open now to find out who David Webb was and what kind of past David Webb had before he became Jason Bourne. I think that COULD potentially lead to another love interest storyline like The Parsifal Mosaic. Perhaps he volunteered for the program because of the love interest he left behind or she prompted him to do it or something and that is what sets him out to find her again. In any event, the continuity of the storyline to me is what sells the Bourne franchise. And I think they should find a way to stick to that. Otherwise you end up having a cinematic dance, where Bourne is trying to become Bond and now it appears Bond is trying to become Bourne.

meh... this series should've ended with #3. Although, I didn't walk out of Quantum of Solace overly satisfied so I might re-consider my position... How about we re-energize some old franchises... True Lies, (where's the) Thomas Crown Affair sequel...

I think its time to make one more movie and just have him killed. The same for Bond when they are ready to move on with a different person. Start killing off these agents.

Not only will the movie will be great, with a real ending, since no one can survive everything, but it puts into perspective how to start over on a new bond or bourne.

Start killing off the characters. it's easier and so much more realistic.

I think people are misreading the synopsis given. The story is NOT about how she turned out to be a double agent before her death, but how he finds out post-retirement that she may be alive and goes to hunt her down to find out more about what actually happened all those years ago.

That sounds interesting to me. It also doesn't sound like either Casino Royale or the Owen/Roberts movie, the name of which is slipping my mind (but it looks good).

In addition, of course, Vesper in Casino Royale was also NOT a double agent, she was being manipulated by Quantum to betray the good guys. She just wanted to help her lover, but she was not ACTUALLY a villain.
