Singer Not involved in Superman Talk?

Source:UGO
December 4, 2008

UGO has posted an interview with Superman Returns director Bryan Singer, who goes a bit back and forth whether he's involved with the follow-up or not. Here's a clip:

JH: But there is talk of a new film, though. Are you officially involved in this talk of the new film?

BS: I am not officially involved in the talk, no.

JH: But when talk happens they’ll call you.

BS: Well it’s, you know, I have relationships with Warner Brothers and with the character and, and, and, and it’s just the way things work out.

JH: But you are not divorced from Superman at this point.

BS: No.

JH: All right.

Not sure how I feel about that....his superman creation wasn't great. Maybe he'll go do another x-men movie? That'll be pretty kick butt.

Anyway, I don't get it, is the next Superman, "The Man of Steel", a sequel to "Returns", or the Superman Trilogy Saga?

Now that he got all the homage/honouring the original Superman crap out of his system with Superman returns, i think Singer could make a decent original action packed Superman.

There is going to be a lot of filmmakers giving Warner Brothers there ideas about a direction to go with Superman. Singer's wasn't bad and does get better on repeated viewing. However, he should have ignored the past films and done his own thing. Maybe give Superman someone real to fight like Brainiac and Bizarro.

If they want to do an amazing Superman movie, the Villian needs to be Darkseid. Just look at the animated series and Justice League Cartoon for inspiration. It would be fantastic!

i think superman returns was a great setup story. it gives all of us a chance to know the "beginning" (yes i know we all know it, but its a reboot) and hopefully the second and/or third will be great and if they dont give him someone to punch the writers must be 3 year olds.

Bryan Singer should not direct or produce or write anything that has to do with SUPERMAN.

Mr. Singer is only marginally more adept at darker fare. It remains to be seen if VALKYRIE will be any good.

All writers and directors should know their limitations. SUPERMAN needs to be done by someone with a more subtle touch and a better understanding of his heroic nature. SUPERMAN is supposed to be the moral center of the DC universe.

SUPERMAN doesn't knock-up Lois Lane (I know he didn't create the storyline but he sure as hell followed up on it), drink beer in a bar or peep through walls.

Singer should bow out gracefully and recognize his short-comings.
