Kevin McKidd Says He's a Thor Contender

Kevin McKidd, who currently stars on "Grey's Anatomy," told IGN that he's still a contender for the lead role in Marvel Studios' Thor.

The actor, most known for "Journeyman" and "Rome," says there's been "a lot of back and forth" but that nothing has been determined. He acknowledged that Kenneth Branagh is directing it, a choice that makes him even more excited about the film.

Marvel Studios is targeting a July 16, 2010 release for Thor.

You wouldn't think of it, but I think Ryan Hurst (Opie) on "sons of anarchey" would make a great thor he is a very underated actor and I believe he can pull off the look given a couple months to prepair....

Who in their right mind would want to see Triple H play Thor? I'm sick of hearing this unimaginative dribble about how he'd make the perfect Thor.

Just because he's big and has long hair? That's basically the only reasons people are suggesting him. The guy can't act. Period. Even in the wrestling his acting is pathetic.

Karl Urban is too small, no matter how much bulk he could add.

McKidd would play a great Donald Blake, but I don't see him as Thor. I used to think he'd play a great Thor, but he's simply too short also, and it would look silly trying to add height and mass to someone so short.

He's certainly got the acting abilities and the intensity to play a warrior god (just watch Rome and you will see how badass he can be), but I'm just not that convinced he's the right man for the job.

Alex Skarsgard is so far the most perfect choice for the role. As mentioned before, he's got the height (6'4"), he's Swedish, so he has the Nordic looks already, he's got the build (with some 300 style training he'll be a tank), and he's got the acting chops and charisma (watch True Blood).

Gerard Butler would make a fantastic Loki!!! But Thor... I really think they'd be best casting a new fresh face and surrounding him with a big name cast. Look at Christopher Reeve, he was fresh and virtually unknown, yet he became the Superman Icon for generations, and they did it by using Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman to support it.
I think Thor should be special, Thor is not your typical comic book icon. His movie should be epic.

Wait, Karl Urban was great in a great franchise.. Lord of the Rings.. And besides, his character there kinda sorta reminds me of a smaller Thor.. So, yeah.. Urban would be good.. but McKidd would be good as well.. Think about it.. Marvel is going after actors that can act and somewhat look the part.. Not actors that look it and cant act
