Planet of the Apes Prequel in the Works?

Last month, CHUD reported that 20th Century Fox had a script in the works titled Genesis: Apes, which is essentially a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The site said that the project is the story of Caesar, the first ape with speech who started the events that led to a world where monkeys were on top.

Now, they're reporting that Fox's Tom Rothman talks about the possible prequel in between showings of the "Planet of the Apes" movies on Fox Movie Channel this weekend.

"We are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009," Rotham reportedly says.

So will this be a prequel for the classics, a prequel for the remake, or will it stand alone.
I'm guessing the third since this story was already told in Conquest and the remake was pretty different. I suppose this would serve as another Hollywood reboot.

If it's a prequel to the remake, I don't expect a good response from the fans.

Why? Burton's remake was awful. Leave the originals alone. I doubt since Burton's film was a bomb people will give a damn about anothe Apes movie.

All but the remake of the Planet of the Apes have been set on Earth. I hope its fairly similar to Conquest because that was the best of the original planet of the apes.

Personally, I think they should finally do the goddamn sequel to Burton's Apes.
That movie left one BAD cliffhanger that seriously needs some closure.
BUT
That's just me and well... I'm not the one making decisions.

I don't know if it's a prequel to the original series or the remake but i'd be surprised to see either because i think the original series is too old to add to, and the remake was too despised for the studio to even think of adding to it.

i agree with jason1978. they should leave the classics alone. and not make a remake of anymore of the movies. the first one was so bad. i hated it. i love the old movies, the classics. they are really good.

Yes now Hollywood gets it, let's do a remake of a prequel.
Actually I loved the original Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, it was really a sequel but it has all the elements of a prequel.
I sure hope this means that we can treat Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes as a bad dream, just like Ang Lee's Hulk and Brian Singer's Superman Returns or Clooney the Looney's Batman and Robin.
And if Hollywood really gets this train to rolling then maybe George Lucas can go back and do a remake of The Phantom Meance.

you people are all f'ing stupid... the remake in 2001 was the 10th highest grossing film of that year IT WAS NOT A BOMB! it is widly regarded as one of the best remakes of all time and i for one think they have every right to remake the originals. i mean yea i f'ing love the original planet of the apes hell i just baught the 40th anniversery box set. and yes a lot of remakes out there completly blow compared to the originals and yes burtins remake of willy wonka f'ing sucked balls, but i think we should give him the benifit of the doubt cuz he is one the best film makers of his time. I would love to see his take on conquest(if in fact it is a remake)
