Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of New Moon, the second installment of its filmed franchise "Twilight," the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series titled, "New Moon." The first movie in the "Twilight" franchise, the self-titled Twilight, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on 'New Moon.'"

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Twilight tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together... even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

No surprises here...if it makes dough, then sequels is a no-brainer. Fans of the series should be happy; others, not so much. In years time, Twilight will be treated as a tweeny fad fading away into the sunset, no different than Harry Potter, a series that's soon to run out of steam in the near future. The studio heads will find something to replace them for the next generation of young-at-hearts. And so forth.

Not that I know anything about this movie or book, but modern day vampires can be out in the day? Interesting

Ah, HELL NAW! This means that we'll have theaters surrounded by whiny Emos again???? And I thought that having annoying Trekkies in theaters next year would be worse! What do you say to that, Lord Vader?

Although some older viewers may appreciate Twilight, the bulk of the fans are tweeners, like it or not, much like Harry Potter, though those tweeners have grown up with the the Harry Potter series over the years.

As a 29 year old married male with kids, I have seen this movie twice already and my daughter is begging me to take her again and I am not disappointed about that. I have been waiting for the news of NEW MOON since the presales rerocking the box office numbers.

New Moon will no doubt be better then Twilight, and the reason is a larger budget, more time spent on script developement because a good potion of preproduction is already done. The CGI, a major complaint for many, will be upgraded in the budget I am sure. Seriously does no one remember how bad half of the CGI was for Harry Potter the first time and second time around. Heck I still can not stand when Sirus Black talks through the fireplace - IT SUCKS but I deal with it cause I am a crazy fan. I am sure we might also see a movement away from the single point of view teling. Bella is important meyer's wrote her that way, but we will need to see more; Edward and Victoria, Wolves and Laurent, Cullen's in Alaska. And then we might aslo get some real Vampire in this - the mass killing in Italy, I doubt these vampires eat with much grace at all, and seeing Jane and the others can be done really great. My wife and daughter are excited to see more of Alice a character that due to time was cut a little bit out of the story.

None-the-less I will be at the theater opening night sporting my Jacob Black bashing tee, the kid is repulsive to me as a literary character. I am sure plenty of girls will buy tickets, drag their boyfriends, and parents along with them. Hard core twilight fans will forgive the mistakes made in the most recent movie, understanding time and budget. Plus I have met plenty of new fans that never read the books that will add in the mix making it a bigger sale. Just open mind, and ready the excitment keep the expectations reasonable and they will make a movie that will not disappoint.

Oh my goodness! I'm super excited - I was so hoping that it would be a movie, along with Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.
I can't wait!! Is there a date yet?

First it's TRUE BLOOD

Second your talking 2 demographics.

Dead until Dark (*the book True Blood is based on*) was made for ADULTS ONLY

The show is FOR ADULTS ONLY.

I agree it's a better product, but you're comparing apples to Oranges.

Both fruit, but not even close to the same

Um, Whats the big deal about Twilight? I don't get it. It has that "been there done that" feeling to it. It's basically the same thing you see in all those countless vampire movies and tv shows like Buffy and Angel. I guess its another movie that has all the ladies screaming over the main star thats why it managed to make the amount it made at the Box Office. Looks like utter rubbish to me though.
