Still No Green Light for Third Narnia?

On Friday, Walden Media announced that Co-CEO and co-founder Cary Granat was exiting the company. One thing we noticed in the press release, however, was that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has not yet gotten the green light:

Cary Granat, Co-CEO and co-founder of Walden Media, will transition from his Walden position to a consultant for the company effective December 1. Granat will be Walden's creative consultant on the third installment in "The Chronicles of Narnia" franchise – "Voyage of the Dawn Treader"- which the company hopes to greenlight soon. He will also provide consulting services for an initiative with AEG Live, the concert and promotion company owned by Phil Anschutz who also owns Walden.

"This was a mutual decision," said David Weil, CEO of Anschutz Film Group, Walden’s parent company. "Cary and we both felt this was the right way to formalize the change in the company's creative direction that will now be overseen by Michael Bostick who was brought in as Co-CEO of Walden earlier this year. We all owe Cary a great debt of gratitude for co-founding the company and guiding the Walden brand to its preeminent place in family entertainment today."

"I'm extremely proud of what we've accomplished in my seven years at Walden. We have been very fortunate, with the unparalleled support of Phil Anschutz, David Weil and the entire team here to create family entertainment that will last for generations. It's time for me to hit the recharge button and take on a new challenge, but I'll always look back fondly on my time at Walden."

Granat will not be replaced and his responsibilities at Walden will now be handled by Weil and Bostick. Granat expects to announce additional future plans shortly.

Disney was targeting a May 7, 2010 release date for the third installment.

I hope they move forward with the series, I'm an atheist and I think they are fun movies, a little too blatant in their association with religion and it's "symbolism" (if you can call it that), but nonetheless fun. Also, I'm surprised to hear people didn't like Caspian, I liked it even more than the first one.

I'm sure they are waiting to see how it does on DVD.

I enjoyed the books. I enjoyed the first movie. The second movie could of been better but I still liked it. My favorite book was The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. As far as the Last Battle in the hands of the right screenwriter it would work.

the second one was great, like sword slashing harry potter glasses. But not to confirm for a thirt, cause the last one didnt raise enought in the box offices. is no good that we gonna see it.

Christian propaganda? Like every other movie Hollywood puts out isn't high-handed liberal propaganda.

I loved the first Narnia movie, but really didnt seem the point in a second. Now I really hope they dont get the green light for a third just beacuse it probably wont make as much money as it takes to produce.

Dont do it.

To be honest I'd rather not see any book-movies for a while. I'd like to see some orignial ideas on the big screen.

Now come on. Get the ball rolling with Dawn Treader. Didn't they already cast that kid from Son of Rambow as Eustace Scrubb? Don't let Georgie and Skandar grow any older now.

Hopefully the film will still go ahead for 2010.

"Christians never seem to see the other side of things."

STEREOTYPE MUCH?
Alright seriously, I could prove you wrong in a million ways, but I don't feel like typing. Just know that Narnia has been complained about a ****load because of its Christian elements. When an atheist film comes out, you're gonna expect that Christians don't like it. When a Christian film comes out, I'll expect atheists and others won't like it.

Please. People have always been shallow. It's not just Christians who don't like films that are against their religion. And when a movie like The Da Vinci Code comes out, which is basically hugely offensive to us, you can bet we're gonna complain.
It's just that there are more Christians than other religions in the world. Doesn't mean all Christians flip out when a movie like the Da Vinci Code or books like The Golden Compass are made. I personally couldn't care less, and I might be called religious if you will, but I'm no priest. It's just those who dedicate their lives to the religion who are really pissed about it, and they have right to. What the hell do you care?

I am done reading other peoples comments on this site they are always negative and do nothing but bash a film, actor or somthing. I hope they green light the script for the movie soon because I like both one and two. I dont have a problem with so called religious based films- I am a Catholic and I liked the Da Vinci Code and look forward to seeing Angels and Demons.
