Star Trek's Full Enterprise Revealed

November 11, 2008

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first photo of the full Enterprise from director J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, opening in theaters on May 8th. The magazine says:

Abrams wanted to take the original TV series Enterprise and the movie franchise Enterprise and fuse them together into a new yet familiar Enterprise. His ambition was a ship that felt very realistic, that could "stand up" to today's f/x standards—and beyond. "If you're going to do Star Trek there are many things you cannot change. The Enterprise is a visual touchstone for so many people. So if you're going to do the Enterprise, it better look like the Enterprise, because otherwise, what are you doing?"

Not bad, actually. Retro, yet sleeked-up. I dig it.

Possibly a little too retro-stylee but i absolutely love it. It is going to be spectacular on the big screen.

I've never been a big fan of Star Trek, but I gotta say that I like it! Just hope the movie isn't as bad as Cloverfield...

Whoa, that is an opportunity missed. The saucer and the neck are fine, but the engineering section is way too far forward to be elegant or streamlined. The nacelles look heavy for their supports (even though that wouldn't matter in space :) but from an aesthetic standpoint, the ensemble could have been a lot cleaner. They were so close, and may have blown it.

I've never seen a Star Trek movie or tv show, I'm a Star Wars guy.

But J.J. Abrams has convinced me to give it a chance.
