On Christmas Day, Lionsgate is release Frank Miller's anticipated The Spirit, and ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! has your exclusive first look at the new trailer!

Written and directed by Miller and adapted from Will Eisner's comic book series, the action adventure stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Paulson, Eva Mendes, Dan Lauria, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Scarlett Johansson, Louis Lombardi and Stana Katic.

The Spirit is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as The Spirit (Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, The Octopus (Jackson) has a different mission: he's going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. Surrounding him at every turn are Ellen Dolan (Paulson), the whip-smart girl-next-door; Silken Floss (Johansson), a punk secretary and frigid vixen; Plaster of Paris (Vega), a murderous French nightclub dancer; Lorelei (King), a phantom siren; and Morgenstern (Katic), a sexy young cop.

Then of course, there's Sand Saref (Mendes), the jewel thief with dangerous curves. She's the love of his life turned bad. Will he save her or will she kill him?

To me, it looks like a straight up popcorn flick diguised in neo/noir. If I do see it, My expectations are going to be that will be a fun and entertaining movie, nothing more.
Personally, I think when people heard that Miller was directing this, most were expecting something dark and bleak like Sin City (great film). Maybe with this, he wanted to do something a little different. I'll give it a chance. Just my opinion.

Agree with Richard Parker. Everybody is just happy talking about this being campy when in fact Eisner had a degree of self-realisation many writers of the time did not. And say what you want about Miller, but he really does respect Eisner and wants to do right by him. Sure he will put his own flourish but I still think the flick will capture the spirit (no pun intended) of the graphic novel.

That wasn't really a trailer...more like a TV ad. Interesting marketing though.

Up in the air as well

I'm confident that it's going to be one hell of a good movie as well as being a successful movie.

He's a Sin City knock-off.

The comic looked nothing like this. Miller is taking too much of an auteur approach and watering down the glory given to Rodriguez when he developed the visual style (on-screen) for Sin City. Way to step on everyone's toes Frankie.
