MGM Acquires Comedic Satire 2012-ish

Screen Daily reports that MGM is in negotiations to acquire end-of-the-world comedy 2012-ish: The Day the Earth Bent Over, formerly known as "Armageddagain."

Produced by Hadeel Reda, the $25 million film will be directed by Robert Moniot from the screenplay he co-wrote with Travis Oates; it is set to shoot in Louisiana for a March 9 start date.

The plot follows a young scientist who fights to save the planet from a number of catastrophes that threaten mankind not to mention a bumbling president and a manic depressive NASA commander.

"The film is a comedic satire in the vein of 'Airplane!' and 'Young Frankenstein,'" said Reda, "The film has an engaging story and the actors play the comedy straight with sharp dialogue and visual humor like the original classics of the genre."

Hope it turns out good. I'm just glad Friedburg and Seltzer aren't involved.

They may not be involved, but they've forever tarnished these type of movies. It will take someone really creative to make them bearable again...

So this is like Disaster Movie except with an actual plot...and purpose...and wit...and hopefully a soul.

Though I wonder if the actual 2012 coming out next year will be enough of a parody in its own right.

I'll take any parody that isn't made by Friedburg and Seltzer. There's gotta be someone who can save the genre.

I agree, it's nice that Friedberg and Setzer have no involvement in this...and hopefully in no motion picture ever again.

But come on, the other 2012 is being directed by Roland Emmerich. Isn't that going to be enough of a comedy?

Cool. I'm looking forward to this with the fact there will be a serious movie about this subject and then a comedy. There's a lot of disaster movies being made when it's coming closer to the year 2012.
