Ray Winstone and Ray Liotta have joined Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Sam Riley and 50 Cent will star in 13, an English-language remake of the 2005 French film 13 Tzameti, reports Variety.

Gela Babluani, who wrote and directed the original, has penned the script and will direct a film that begins production in New York on Nov. 20.

Riley (Control) plays the title character, a young man who stumbles into an underground competition where the wealthy gamble on human beings in a Russian Roulette-like competition.

Rourke (The Wrestler) will play a convict in a Mexican prison who is sold into the competition. Winstone will play a competitor who has been sprung from a mental institution to participate; 50 Cent will play an employee assigned to escort Rourke's character to the bloody game.

Statham plays a wealthy British man who bets on the competition and has a peculiar interest in one of the competitors. Liotta will play a cop on the trail of the illegal game.

The thriller will be produced by Rick Schwartz and his Overnight Productions; Barbarian Films' Aaron Kaufman; and Valerio Morabito.

Have never heard of the original but this remake actually sounds pretty cool. I like the cast.

I know people seem to hate 50 Cent. Personally, I've only seen him in 1 movie, Righteous Kill and I thought he was perfectly decent in that movie. So I have no problem with him.

And the rest of the cast is aces in my book. Except for Sam Riley whom I have never heard of.

13 Tzameti was great the way it is, why do they have to remake everything the movie was just released in 2005

Agreed Major, the original was fantastic and they need to quite remaking everything just because people don't want to watch the original with subtitles.

They translate books into other languages to MAKE MONEY. Why wouldn't they do the same for movies? It's all about making money! No need to be a "watch it in its original language" kind of snob. If ya don't like it, don't see it.

This does actually sound decent. I'll keep it on my radar.

I was very interested in the Liota and Winstone headline.
Lost interest when i saw Stathams wooden name.
Audibly sighed when i saw 50 cents ridiculous made-up name.
Useless....

I for one think this movie will be great just simply do to the calliber of good actors they have gathered, but i don't see statham as just as just a wealthy beter and not into the/any action. I simply would have just seen do the fact that mickey rourke is in it for i believe his career is/almost finally resurrected which was a long overdue if you ask me.

Yeah they tried a concept like this once it was called Funny Games and the original was better then the remake. But I will hold my tongue because Michael Pitt was rockin' the **** in that movie. I also like Sam Riley, so let's see how this pans out.

If you have doubts about Jason Statham, see The Bank Job, the best heist movie in years.
